AR&PA - Biennial of Heritage in Iberia
AR&PA - Biennial of Heritage in Iberia The second edition of the Bienal Ibérica de Património (Biennial of Heritage in Iberia) Cultural took place from 8th to 11th November in Valladolid. The event is the result of the merger of the Bienal de la Restauración y Gestión del Patrimonio AR&PA, with the Feira do Património (Heritage Fair). The fusion of both events allowed to broaden the contact to a greater number of entities in the area of Cultural Heritage: conservation and restoration, professional education, heritage management companies, among others. In total there were 32 Portuguese entities that had the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences among themselves and with other entities coming from Spain. The event that is already a landmark at European level gathered several hundred professionals and the general public. In addition to the fifteen technical presentations with specialists from the area, the Comunidade Intermunicipal de Leiria (Township Community of Leiria) promoted three cultural initiatives: Sculpture and Fado, with Cristina Maria; Concert of the Jazz Orchestra of Leiria; and musical group AHKORDA. On the first day, the preliminary results of the study “Património Cultural em Portugal: Avaliação do valor económico e social” (Cultural Heritage in Portugal: evaluation of the economic and social values) were presented by José Tavares (NOVA SBE), Catarina Valença Gonçalves (Spira) and José Maria Lobo de Carvalho (Heritage Observatory): this is a pioneering study which objectives are to understand how cultural heritage should be integrated into the country's economic agenda. One of the most important moments of the event was the signing of the HERIFAIRS (European Heritage Fairs Network) agreement between Portugal, Spain, Italy and Austria: integrated in the celebration of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, it is intended that this important agreement will result in a joint work between these 4 countries regarding the promotion of the european cultural heritage sector. Next edition of the AR&PA Biennial, to be held in 2019, will take place in Portugal, in the Algarve region: the official presentation was attended by the Deputy Mayor of the Mayor's Office of Loulé, Pedro Pimpão. The preparation of the portuguese edition has already started.
